Grand Prairie standoff ends with one wounded, child found asleep
A man who fired multiple shots at his wife as he chased her down a street and then retreated to his home early Tuesday held police at bay with a toddler inside the house for about five hours before he shot himself, authorities said.
The couple’s toddler was found asleep, and the man had what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas and was listed in critical condition.
Police did not identify anyone involved.
The incident began about 1:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of Scarborough Drive when an officer responded to a report of gunfire.
As officers arrived, they found a woman hiding behind a vehicle on a street. The woman said that she and her husband had gotten into a domestic dispute and that he had brandished a gun and chased her out of the house.
“He chased her down the street, firing multiple shots at her,” Detective Mark Beseda said in a news release. “The female was uninjured and able to escape safely. The male suspect returned to the home.”
The woman told officers that the couple’s 1-year-old child was asleep in the home.
Police tried to negotiate with the man, but he refused to come out. At 6:30 a.m., SWAT officers entered the home and found the child unhurt and the man with a gunshot wound.
