Pilot killed in crash of small plane in Argyle

A pilot killed Wednesday night in a Denton County plane crash has been identified as William Graves of Flower Mound, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website on Thursday.

Graves, 52, was pronounced dead shortly after the crash, officials with the medical examiner’s office say.

The twin-engine Cessna 441 was approaching Denton Municipal Airport at 9:20 p.m., said Lynn Lunsford, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.

The plane hit the ground about a half-mile from Liberty Christian School in the 1400 block of Stonecrest Road, said Argyle Fire Chief Mac Hohenberger.

Hohenberger said the Tarrant County medical examiner was called to the scene after 10 p.m.

The investigation into the cause of the crash will be turned over to the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board after the fire department made sure the plane was safe to touch, he said.
