Warning: Wear ‘Open Carry’ T-shirt with caution
T-shirts that feature a realistic-looking gun and holster are being sold with a word of caution.
The open-carry T-shirts sold online by Colorado-based Nitelife Promotions are advertised as a “real conversation starter” and a way to “meet like-minded people and make new friends.” But they also come with a legal disclaimer and “lifesaving information” warning wearers that their actions could result in injury or even death.
“At a short distance, the gun looks real! Law enforcement officers may overreact to your shirt,” the website warns. “Obey all orders. Halt! Freeze! Stop! Immediately! Do not reach towards the holster and gun.”
The shirts, for men and women, range from $22 to $28 and also come in a polo style for $39 to $49.
Paul Liebe with Nitelife Promotions said on the open-carry T-shirts Facebook page that he has been slammed with orders because of national and international media coverage.
Openly carrying handguns is illegal in six states — including Texas. But that could change.
Gov. Greg Abbott announced this week that he will sign “a law that makes Texas the 45th state to allow open carry” if the bill makes it to his desk.
