Blue Bell recalls some Rocky Road pints in Texas, La.
Holster your spoons, Rocky Road fans.
That Blue Bell pint you’re about to dive into may actually be Cookies ’n’ Cream.
The Texas ice cream maker is voluntarily recalling pints of mislabled Rocky Road produced at its plant in Brenham and distributed in Texas and Louisana.
Thankfully, this recall is completely unrelated to the massive listeria outbreak that forced Blue Bell to pull all of its ice cream from store shelves in April 2015. But another recall is the last thing the company, which has rebounded with help from Fort Worth billionaire Sid Bass, probably needs.
This recall involves pints of Blue Bell’s Rocky Road that were mislabled and actually contain Cookies ’n’ Cream ice cream. While that might seem like a happy accident for some Blue Bell lovers, Cookies ‘n’ Cream contains soy and wheat, which, as the FDA points out, could cause problems for people with serious allergies to those ingredients.
No illnesses have been reported so far, according to Blue Bell, but the company is playing it safe and voluntarily recalling the (not) Rocky Road. A Blue Bell employee discovered the incorrect packaging while restocking a retailer.
The imposter pints can be identified as a Rocky Road container with a Cookies ’n’ Cream lid. A code on the bottom of the affected pints is 022918576. A Blue Bell official said none of the mislabled pints have been distributed in the DFW area.
Anybody who bought one of these pints can return it to the store where they got it for a full refund.
