You might say Cabela’s is kicking off the Christmas shopping season with a bang.

The outdoors mega-retailer in far north Fort Worth plans to give away guns to a small number of shoppers to kick off its Black Friday sales.

The store will open at 5 a.m. Friday, and the first 600 people age 18 and over in line will receive “mystery envelopes” containing vouchers for gifts.

“All gifts will be distributed randomly and could include outdoor products, firearms, Cabela’s gift cards and much more,” the company said in a news release. “Firearm winners will be required to complete and pass a standard federal background check to take ownership of the firearm.”

It’s part of the company’s nationwide holiday shopping bonanza.

Giveaways will vary by location, company officials say, and could include a Ruger LC9 Pistol, Browning BPS Hunter Pump-Action Shotgun, Badlands Release Day Pack or a Masterbuilt Sportsman Elite 30" Window Smoker.

Cabela’s at 12901 Cabela Dr. in Fort Worth also will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Many other North Texas retailers have already begun their Black Friday sales, and others will unveil their holiday bargains throughout the week.
