The second Black Rooster Cafe artisan bakery will open in the downtown space vacated by La Perla, owner Immy Khan said Wednesday.

The Black Rooster is actually opening two new locations this summer, one in the La Perla space, 910 Houston St., and another adjacent to Khan’s legacy cafe on Camp Bowie Boulevard, The Lunch Box.

Both locations and the original Forest Park Boulevard bakery will expand to offer the signature artisan pastries and desserts, coffees and lunch sandwiches, Khan said.

The Houston Street location is between the Omni and Hilton hotels and next to a new Fairfield Inn & Suites due to open by year’s end.

“We feel like we can bring something different to the downtown customer and offer visitors a local option,” Khan said.

The Black Rooster serves Marfa-based Big Bend coffees but will start a “roaster of the month,” Khan said.

The new Houston Street location is scheduled to open by mid-July and will serve breakfast and lunch at first, he said. Work continues with an August opening planned at the new Village at Camp Bowie location back-to-back with The Lunch Box.

The original location is open daily except Mondays at 2430 Forest Park Blvd.; 817-924-1600, roosterbakery.com.
