Teacher accused in sexual assault no longer with Mansfield schools

A special education teacher facing charges of sexual assault of a child and child pornography is no longer working in the Mansfield school district, officials said Tuesday.

Kelly Dan Williams, 62, was hired by Mansfield in August 2010 and most recently worked as a special needs instructor at Mary Orr Intermediate School.

On June 1, Williams was seen performing a sex act on an 11-year-old male student in a school restroom stall and was reported to school authorities, according to news release from the U.S. attorney’s office. He was arrested that day by Mansfield school district police, accused of aggravated sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between an educator and student.

On Monday, Williams made his initial appearance on a complaint alleging production of child pornography in a case that goes back to February 2010, according to the news release.

During the investigation by Mansfield school district police, a search was conducted at Williams’ residence where electronic storage devices including an SD memory card were seized.

A forensic examination revealed that a video on the SD card showed Williams performing a sex act on a boy in what appears to be a school bathroom stall, the release said. The boy appeared to be younger than 12, authorities said.

Further forensic analysis indicated that the video was created on or about Feb. 3, 2010, according to the release.

Mansfield school district officials said their police department is working with local and federal officials on the case.

“We want to assure the community that the safety of our students remains our top priority, and we are committed to maintaining a safe school environment that is conducive to teaching and learning,” Hope Boyd, communications specialist with the district, said in an email.

If convicted on the pornography charge, Williams faces a maximum penalty of 15 to 30 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine and a lifetime of supervised release.

Williams was released from jail on state charges after posting $200,000 bail on June 5, according to Tarrant County district clerk’s office records.
