Star-Telegram columnist is finalist for Texas Sportswriter of the Year

Longtime Star-Telegram columnist Mac Engel is a finalist for Texas Sportswriter of the Year, awarded by the National Sports Media Association.

Engel chronicles the Dallas-Fort Worth sports scene and beyond, with reporting and commentary on the Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks, TCU, other prominent universities around the state and more.

He is one of eight finalists for the honor, along with Cedric Golden of the Austin American-Statesman; Evan Grant, Kevin Sherrington and Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News; Greg Tepper of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football; Kirk Bohls of the Houston Chronicle; and Leah Vann of Chron.com in Houston.

The results are based on nominations and balloting from NSMA members.

Members can vote on the final ballot from Dec. 1-31, and winners will be notified in January.
