Why Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott owes Taylor Swift a big thank you
More evidence of how far the Dallas Cowboys have fallen is now visible by who sits in the suite to watch their games.
The Cowboys get former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie as Jerry Jones’ rabbit’s foot.
The Kansas City Chiefs get Taylor Swift.
Game over.
TayTay and the Swifties entering the world of professional football is because of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, but the big winner in this future No. 1 heartbreak-song is Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
However sick you may be of having Swift celebration shots from the Chiefs’ game on all of your devices, no one is happier than Dak that this current NFL is Taylor’s Version.
Dak, do yourself a favor and send Taylor a gift; maybe a Cardigan. Or, better yet, she needs a new scarf. Just not a red one.
(Author’s Note: The writer has a 14-year-old daughter).
Prescott’s fourth-quarter interception on Sunday in the Cowboys’ 28-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals would lead all sports media coverage this week if it weren’t for Taylor Swift emerging as the No. 1 Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Her presence at the Chiefs’ win over the Bears provided cover for Dak, Broncos coach Sean Payton, Bears quarterback Justin Fields, even New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson.
Any NFL player or coach who had a bad week owes a Swift shout out.
None more than Dak.
To recap: With three minutes remaining in the game, and the Cowboys down two scores, they had the ball at the Cardinals’ 6-yard line. Dak threw a pass into the end zone for receiver Brandin Cooks.
Dak didn’t put enough air under the ball, and it was intercepted by Kyzir White.
There were three defenders in the area, and the play required a level of perfection that maybe only a Tom Brady or a John Elway could make. Maybe T-Swizzle, too.
Dak owned it.
Typically, the immediate reaction to a play like this would be to put Dak on a spit and turn him until he was well roasted from head to toe.
He knows this routine All Too Well.
No NFL player was scrutinized, and crushed, this offseason more than Dak Prescott. “Dak Interceptions” turned into the easiest of all topics on sports talk shows for several months.
And yet when his threw his first pick of the season, it was not the lead topic on those same shows. It wasn’t even about the Denver Broncos losing by a score of 70-20 to the Miami Dolphins.
A Monday sports talk show without a Dak interception leading the coverage is a little bit like Snow on the Beach.
Instead, the lead topic was about the world’s biggest pop star sitting next to the mom of the Kansas City Chiefs tight end to watch the game at Arrowhead Stadium. The couple isn’t even officially dating, and yet she’s already met his mother.
For all of those football fans who are sick of seeing shots of Swift celebrating another Chiefs touchdown from Sunday’s game, You Need To Calm Down.
As much as Deion Sanders has owned all of football in this first month of the regular season, not even Prime can match the wattage and power of Taylor. There is nothing else in the world right now that comes close to creating the amount of media attention by this woman.
Just by being linked to Swift, Travis Kelce’s social media account jumped by the hundreds of thousands, and his jersey sales increased by 400 percent.
Even New England Patriots coach Bill Belichik, himself a noted Swiftie, commented on her appearance in Kansas City.
“I would say that Travis Kelce has had a lot of big catches in his career, this would be his biggest,” Belichick told the “The Greg Hill Show” on WEEI in Boston.
Who knows how long this story line goes, but as long as Swift is around the Chiefs within range of an iPhone, Everything has Changed.
Her presence at every NFL game will provide a diversion, and cover, for any name player whose performance would otherwise warrant Death by a Thousand Cuts.
Now, if and when “Tayvis” bombs, and Dak throws another pick, no one could blame the guy if he jumps into his Getaway Car.
