Lone Star Park is re-opening with live racing
Live horse racing is returning to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, but the stands are closed.
The Chickasaw Nation, which owns the horse track, announced on Thursday afternoon that the track will re-open on Friday, May 22.
Beginning at 10:30 a.m. the off track betting parlor will open, but will be limited to 25 percent capacity. Live horse racing will also start on Friday, however no fans will be permitted in the stands to attend.
The track did not announce a timeline when fans may be allowed to return to watch in person.
The track also said that everyone who enters the Lone Star Park Bar & Book will be checked for temperature. Anyone with a temperature reading more than100.4°F will not be allowed in.
Employees will be required to wear protective masks.
“Patrons are highly encouraged to wear protective coverings over their nose and mouth at all times or when not eating or drinking,” the Park said in statement on its website.
Reservations are currently not being accepted, and the menu will be limited.
Amid the rush of closures for concerns over COVID-19, Lone Star Park closed its OTB on March 16. The thoroughbred season at Lone Star Park was originally scheduled to begin on April 16.
The racing at Lone Star Park is scheduled to be carried by TVG, NBC SportsNet and FoxSports 2 all weekend.
Lone Star is now following the lead of other tracks in the nation that have opened with no fans in the stands. Those include Churchill Downs in Kentucky, Gulfstream in Miami and Santa Anita Park in California.
