Kliff Kingsbury is sending Patrick Mahomes’ high school coach to the Super Bowl

Not only is Kliff Kingsbury the best looking man in football, he’s also apparently one of the the best guys, too.

The Arizona Cardinals coach has done a solid for the man who helped him land the young man who helped to make him an NFL head coach.

When the Kansas City Chiefs earned their appearance in the Super Bowl, Patrick Mahomes’ former high school coach, Adam Cook, debated whether he should try to fly to South Florida to watch the game.

As is the case with every player, Mahomes has been overwhelmed with ticket requests and Cook said he didn’t even bother asking his former quarterback.

Cook was OK with staying in Whitehouse, and watching the game with family and friends.

During our phone call last week, I implored Cook that if he could somehow swing it, he should go to the game. The Super Bowl is one event that every sports fan should try to attend once.

And if one of the players happens to be your former star quarterback with whom you have a personal relationship, GO.

A trip to the Super Bowl is not cheap, but after our chat Cook decided he was going to try. Face value of a Super Bowl ticket is typically about $1,000. On the secondary market, the tickets are going for at least $5,000.

Word floated around that Cook was hoping to go, and he received a text message from a friend who had a ticket. That friend was Kingsburgy. The ticket arrived via FedEx on Monday.

“I really couldn’t believe it,” Cook said. “I was so overwhelmed when I heard from him.”

Kliff Kingsbury wins The Great Guy Award.

Cook was the head coach at Whitehouse High School when Kingsbury was the head coach at Texas Tech, and was recruiting Mahomes.

“The neat thing about Kliff was even if we didn’t have kids he was recruiting from here, if Kliff Kingsbury was around here he was going to stop just to say hello,” Cook said. “The guy who sent me that ticket is not the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Or the head coach at Texas Tech. Or the quarterbacks coach at Texas A&M. Or the quarterback at Texas Tech.

“This was Kliff Kingsbury, the kid running around the field house whose dad is the coach and his mom is the teacher, wanting to make sure I could go to the game.”

Well done.
