Fort Worth Vaqueros resume hunt for taste of victory
After last week’s home rainout, the Fort Worth Vaqueros FC resume their search for their first win of 2015 with a match Thursday night against FC Wichita, a new squad in the South Central Conference of the National Premier Soccer League.
The Vaqueros (0-1-2, 2 points) last played on May 23, a 2-1 road loss in Joplin, Mo. Wichita has won two in a row, including Sunday’s 1-0 road victory against The Colony-based Liverpool Warriors.
“We have scouted Wichita and they are a very physical and direct team,” Vaqueros coach Mark Snell said. “We will need to be at our best.”
Midfielder Corwin Carbonell leads the Vaqueros with two goals, while Jorge Deleon and Nestor Martinez each have a single goal.
Vaqueros outside back Joseph Cervantes moved inside last week due to an ankle injury to Jacob Speed. Vaqueros starting goalkeeper Arturo Sanchez, who played collegiately at Texas Wesleyan, picked up a shutout in a scoreless tie May 16 at Martin Field.
