How many countries won more medals than Texas at the 2024 Paris Olympics?

The Paris Olympics came to a close on Sunday. The United States finished another dominating performance with 40 gold medals and 126 overall medals, 35 more than second-place China.

Texas more than played its part in the U.S.’s success sending multiple medal-winning athletes to Paris. How many medals did the entire state of Texas win and how many countries did they out-medal?

Texas athletes won 41 medals overall (16 gold, 14 silver, 11 bronze) which would make the Lone Star state the seventh best-performing country.

below are the top ten performing countries in the Paris Olympics.

1. U.S.: 126 medals (40 gold, 44 silver and 42 bronze)

2. China: 91 medals (40 gold, 27 silver and 24 bronze)

3. Great Britain: 65 medals (14 gold, 22 silver and 29 bronze)

4. France: 64 medals (16 gold, 26 silver and 22 bronze)

5. Australia: 53 medals (18 gold, 19 silver and 16 bronze)

6. Japan 45 medals (20 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze)

7. Italy: 40 medals (12 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronze)

8. Netherlands: 34 medals (15 gold, 7 silver and 12 bronze)

9. Germany: 33 medals (12 gold, 13 silver and 8 bronze)

10. South Korea: 32 medals (13 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze)

Texas’ 16 gold medals would tie them with host country France for the fifth most at the entire summer games.

The Texan with the most golds in these Olympics was Simone Biles and Gabrielle Thomas who took home three apiece.
