About the Devils: New Jersey went into Thursday night’s game at Nashville having lost three in a row and six of seven. The Devils lost 3-1 on Tuesday to Carolina. They have been shut out twice and held to a single goal twice in their last seven. The Devils lost 3-1 to Carolina on Tuesday. The Devils won the previous matchup with the Stars 3-2 in New Jersey on Jan. 2. Right wing Lee Stempniak leads the team in points (41) and assists (25) while Kyle Palmieri has the most goals (23).

About the Stars: Dallas has lost four straight and seven of eight and now faces injury setbacks. Forward Patrick Sharp (five to seven days) and defenseman Jordie Benn (one or two weeks) will miss time with lower-body injuries, the Stars’ website reported Thursday. The club recalled right wing Brett Ritchie, 22, from the Texas Stars of the AHL. Sharp left Tuesday’s 5-3 loss to Nashville with the injury he has been battling “most of the year,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. Benn’s injury is the same one that has kept him out of the lineup twice already this season for a total of six games. ... Right wing Patrick Eaves practiced with the team after missing the past five games with pneumonia. He is expected to return during the upcoming road trip. ... Newly acquired defenseman Kris Russell had his first full practice with the Stars on Thursday. Russell, one of the game’s best shot blockers, took a puck to the nose.
