About the Stars: In their first game since the All-Star break, the Stars snapped an eight-game road losing streak with a 5-3 win at Winnipeg on Tuesday. They won only three of 11 games in January and not one was away from home. They begin February with eight of their first 11 on the road, all but one against Central Division foes. Forward Colton Sceviour left Tuesday’s game with an undisclosed injury. Defenseman Jordie Benn was activated off injured reserve but did not play. He will be available against Colorado.
About the Avalanche: They have won both games this season against the Stars, including a 3-1 win in Dallas on Jan. 23. Center Matt Duchene leads the team in points (42) and goals (23). Goalie Semyon Varlamov won a court award of $126,000 against a former girlfriend who accused him of assault and battery after a Halloween party in 2013. Varlamov did not play in Colorado’s last three games. His last action was against the Stars on Jan. 23. Calvin Pickard will start his fourth straight game. He has a 2.78 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.
