The Dallas Stars have to do something they’ve done only once in their history to stay alive in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Stars trail the Minnesota Wild 3-2 in their first-round series heading into Game 6 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Paul.
Dallas has come back from a 3-2 deficit to win a series only once — against the Colorado Avalanche in the 1999 Western Conference final en route to the Stars’ only Stanley Cup title.
The Stars are 1-12 when facing a 3-2 deficit and have forced a Game 7 only five times. The numbers are better in Dallas’ specific situation of losing Game 5 after the series was tied 2-2. The Stars are 4-2 in those Game 6s, including three wins on the road.
If the Stars beat the Wild on Thursday, Game 7 would be Saturday at American Airlines Center at a time to be determined.
