Blues hold off Stars to take Game 1 in second round series
Jamie Benn scored to pull the Stars within a goal with 2:17 left in regulation but the St. Louis Blues held off the Dallas Stars to take Game 1 4-2 Thursday night at Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Mo.
Benn’s goal came just after the Stars earned their second power play of the game when Alex Pietrangelo was called for high-sticking.
Game 2 is at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Louis. The series comes to Dallas for Games Nos. 3 and 4 on Monday and Wednesday.
Jason Spezza tied it at 1-1 in the second period on an assist from John Klingberg. But seconds into their second power play of the night, the Vladimir Tarasenko scored to reclaim a 2-1 lead.
Roman Polak was called for hooking Tarasenko right in front of the crease, which set up the power play. Tarasenko scored eight seconds later.
The Stars had the shots on goal advantage 29-20, including 17 in the third period.
Early in the third, Tarasenko beat Miro Heiskanen one on one to shoot a goal high in the net past Bishop to give St. Louis a 3-1 lead.
In the first two periods, Benn, Tyler Seguin and Alexander Radulov had one combined shot on goal.
