About the Blues: St. Louis lost 5-0 to the New York Rangers on Tuesday. Aside from a 6-4 win at Calgary on Oct. 22, the Blues have scored only five goals over the last 366:40. … Captain Alex Pietrangelo sustained a lower-body injury against the Rangers and did not skate Wednesday, but coach Ken Hitchcock said Pietrangelo would be evaluated at Thursday’s morning skate. … The Blues placed defenseman Robert Bortuzzo on injured reserve with a lower-body injury and recalled defenseman Brad Hunt.
About the Stars: Dallas is coming off a 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets in overtime Tuesday in a game that the Stars led 2-1 until giving up a power-play goal with 16 seconds left in regulation. Not the way the Western Conference’s top team from last season expected to start the season. “[Tuesday] night might have been the best gave we’ve played overall,” coach Lindy Ruff told the team’s website. “Still, systematically, we beat ourselves at the end. We didn’t do that last year. We were a good team when we had the lead.” … The Blues knocked the Stars out of the playoffs with a 6-1 win in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinal.
