Dallas Stars center Janmark to miss 5-6 months after knee surgery
Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill said Friday that 23-year-old center Mattias Janmark is expected to miss a minimum of five to six months after surgery to correct an issue with a joint in his knee. He was scheduled to undergo a procedure Friday to correct an issue called osteochondritis dissecans, the team said.
“It’s a condition that develops in joints due to a lack of blood supply in that area,” Nill told media Friday morning. “What happened with Mattias is he had a small segment, approximately 21 millimeters by 11 millimeters, that became displaced and it’s locked in his knee. Today, our team doctor is going to do an operation and take that bone segment and reattach it.”
A third-round pick by Detroit in 2013, Janmark was acquired in March 2015 for Erik Cole. Last season as a rookie, Janmark had 15 goals and 14 assists in 73 games.
Janmark skated in Wednesday’s morning skate but did not play in a 4-2 loss in Colorado later that night. He was on crutches Thursday and is expected to be on crutches four to six weeks.
Also Friday, the Stars released forwards Connor Chatham and Sam Laberge from their amateur tryouts.
Exhibition game
Blues 4, Stars 1: Jason Spezza scored a power-play goal midway through the first period to give the Dallas Stars an early lead Friday night, but the St. Louis Blues took control after that en route to a 4-1 victory in an exhibition game in St. Louis.
The Stars dropped their second straight preseason game by giving up three power-play goals, one in each period.
After Spezza scored at the 8:49 of the first period on assists by Patrick Eaves and Juri Hudler, the Blues tied it with 1:02 left in the period on a power-play goal by Colton Parayko.
In the second period, St. Louis added another power-play goal by Jordan Schmaltz. Less than a minute later, Dmitrij Jaskin scored the only even-strength goal against Kari Lehtonen for a 3-1 lead with 9:49 to play in the period.
