Now that I have your attention, the question is: would the Dallas Cowboys ever consider cutting Tony Romo?

Or should they?

For better or worse, owner Jerry Jones will likely see to it that Romo is on the 53-man roster. But the time frame on Romo’s return from a broken bone in his back is now anywhere from six to 10 weeks. And what then? Will the fragile QB be able to sustain another big hit?

The Cowboys spent most of last year waiting for Romo to ride to their rescue; it never happened. And now, after multiple back and collarbone injuries, Romo, always a warrior, just doesn’t seem durable enough to be an every down quarterback in the NFL.

Rookie Dak Prescott will be the Game 1 starter, and he was impressive in the preseason. But that was preseason.

With Kellen Moore out (broken leg) and second-year man Jameill Showers’ looking shaky at best in his preseason finale, the Cowboys have little choice but to hope Prescott’s poise will translate to the regular season -- at least long enough for Romo to make another heroic comeback.

Keep ’em.

(But sign another back-up just in case.)
