Dallas Cowboys top list of specialty license plates

The Dallas Cowboys were the No. 1 selling specialty license plate among all the state’s pro sports for the first half of 2016 with 199, according to MyPlates.com. The ranking is based on sales from Jan. 1 to July 31.

Following the Cowboys, in order among pros sports, were the Houston Texans (135), San Antonio Spurs (89), Houston Rockets (32), Dallas Stars (31) and Dallas Mavericks (30).

In the college ranks, Texas A&M was a clear No. 1 with 481 followed by the University of Texas at 382. TCU was eighth with 64.

Since November 2009, Texans have bought more than 280,000 My Plates, putting more than $45 million in the state general fund.
