FRISCO A decision on whether Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott will face domestic abuse charges likely won’t be known for at least another week.

The Columbus, Ohio prosecutor’s office continues to investigate allegations made by a former girlfriend against Elliott last month.

Robert Tobias, the city’s director of prosecution resources unit, said he conducted a follow up interview with the victim on Monday, and intends to interview one of the witnesses on Friday.

Tobias said they would like to meet with Elliott on the matter at some point, but didn’t know if that would happen.

After all the necessary interviews are conducted, a final decision will be reached.

If the prosecutor’s office determines there is enough to go forward with a case, Elliott would be facing misdemeanor charges. He is also be subject to discipline by the NFL for violating its personal conduct policy.

An NFL spokesman said the Elliott investigation “remains under review” for the time being.

Elliott has repeatedly declined comment on his legal issues during training camp, and the Cowboys have stood behind him throughout the process.

But this matter has no definitive end date in sight.

“A final decision will probably not take place this week,” Tobias said.

In the meantime, Elliott has been getting ready for a rookie season and has returned to practice this week after missing two weeks of training camp with a tight hamstring.

There are high expectations for Elliott, the fourth overall pick. Most have him as a strong contender for NFL rookie offensive player of the year as he’s expected to have a prominent role in the Cowboys’ offense after rushing for more than 1,800 yards in each of his last two seasons with Ohio State.
