McClain still on team, but Dallas Cowboys mum on his future
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain is still on the team.
For now.
McClain and defensive end Randy Gregory will begin training camp on the reserve/did not report list.
“Obviously, there are some details that go into their situations that we’re not going to discuss,” vice-president Stephen Jones said.
McClain and Gregory have been suspended by the league for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy as has defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.
McClain will miss the first 10 games. Lawrence will miss four games. Gregory, who was already suspended for the first four games this season for violating the substance abuse policy, has failed another drug test and might be penalized another 10 games, according to sources.
“We’re going to focus on what we’re dealing with right now. As we move forward, we’ll deal with other issues that come up,” Stephen Jones said.
The Cowboys hosted their annual state-of-the team news conference to start training camp in Oxnard, Calif, Friday. The team’s first practice is Saturday.
Still, the early part of the news conference centered on McClain.
“He’s not here and we’ll move on,” Stephen Jones said.
