Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is getting closer to making a decision on what procedure to undergo this off-season to try to prevent future injuries to his left collarbone.

As of now, Romo is leaning toward having a plate inserted in his collarbone. A final decision, though, won’t come until he has CT scans next week.

As far as the way I feel, I feel good. We just want to make sure that obviously it doesn’t happen again, so we’ll probably just put a plate on it and go from there.

“We’re just going to do it for preventative,” said Romo, appearing with his family at a promotional event Saturday for The Lego Movie 4D: A New Adventure at Legoland.

“As far as the way I feel, I feel good. We just want to make sure that obviously it doesn’t happen again, so we’ll probably just put a plate on it and go from there.”

Putting a plate on it … really you’re just doing it to ensure next year when you take a hit.

Romo did not seem worried about the recovery time of the procedure, saying he would be ready for organized team activities and minicamp in a couple months.

“Putting a plate on it … really you’re just doing it to ensure next year when you take a hit,” Romo said. “If I can do something that helps me to ensure that the bone doesn’t break next time, I think that’s good for everybody. It’s a small procedure, it’s not very big.”

Romo missed 12 games last season, fracturing his left collarbone twice during the season. He injured it initially in Week 2 at Philadelphia, and again in his second game back against Carolina on Thanksgiving Day.

Romo, who turns 36 in April, also dealt with the injury in 2010.

Romo touched on other topics as well:

▪ On the Cowboys drafting a QB with fourth overall pick: “I think we’ll take the best player available. If there’s a franchise guy, you always have to look into that. … Good thing I don’t have to make those decisions, but I think that we’ll get a good player there.”

▪  On his preference to get a win-now piece: “You always want someone who can come in and help your football team quickly, so in that regard we’re all excited about getting a player who can help us. And that spot you can get an impactful player, so that’s about the only good thing that comes out of the season.”

▪ On lessons from last season: “We’ve got to be better. I think we didn’t play well enough last year. I think there’s a lot of areas that we have to improve and we have an opportunity with a high draft pick to get a player who can really help improve our football team quickly and same as free agency. We need to get some new people and some guys on our team have to get better too.”

▪ On the Lego event: “I’ve got a son [Hawk] over there who’s about to turn 4, he loves it. We’ve been to Legoland a few times and he pretty much wants legos for every Christmas, birthday. Hawk’s been excited for about a month.”
