Cowboys send six players to Pro Bowl
Zack Martin earned a Pro Bowl trip in his first season. He is one of three Cowboys offensive linemen and six offensive players to earn all-star berths.
On Tuesday, the NFL announced the 86 players selected for the game.
Martin was one of three rookies selected for Pro Bowl, joining Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley. He is the eighth rookie in franchise history to earn a Pro Bowl trip, the first since kicker Nick Folk in 2007.
Martin’s linemates Travis Frederick and Tyron Smith were elected alongside him. It is Frederick’s first trip in his second season and Smith’s second in his fourth season.
All three were first-round draft choices.
Smith has allowed five sacks, according to STATS, with two holds and five false starts. Frederick has allowed half a sack with four holds. Martin has allowed one sack with no holds.
Romo earned his fourth Pro Bowl, but his first since 2009. Among Cowboys quarterbacks, only Roger Staubach (6) and Troy Aikman (6) have more Pro Bowl nods.
Bryant, a first-round pick in 2010, earned his second trip as did DeMarco Murray. Both played in their first all-star game after last season.
The Pro Bowl will be played in Phoenix on Jan. 25, a week before Super Bowl XLIX. For the second consecutive season, the Pro Bowl is unconferenced with players selected regardless of conference affiliation.
The NFC earned 40 spots and the AFC 46, led by a league-best nine from the Denver Broncos. Broncos defensive end DeMarcus Ware earned his eighth Pro Bowl, the first seven coming with the Cowboys.
Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who has made nine Pro Bowls, was not one of the four players selected at his position. He last missed a Pro Bowl in 2011. He was a late injury replacement for Denver tight end Julius Thomas last year.
