Cowboys have had surprises this season, but also disappointments
Biggest disappointment
Lack of takeaways
The Cowboys were takeaway machines a year ago, ranking second in the league with 31. It’s part of the reason the defense improved from the third-worst all-time in 2013 into a middle of the road unit in 2014. But the turnovers have been lacking this season, as the Cowboys have only four. Worse yet, they have not produced a takeaway in six of eight games so far.
Biggest surprise
DB Byron Jones
For a first-round draft pick, Byron Jones is quietly having a great rookie season. His breakout game happened in Week 5 against New England when he successfully contained tight end Rob Gronkowski. He has continued to build on that success, taking more snaps away from J.J. Wilcox, and has displayed terrific coverage skills and been a solid tackler.
