Josh Brent sits out second straight practice

Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent wasn’t seen during the early portion of Friday’s practice, his second consecutive day sitting out.

Brent tweaked his calf during practice on Wednesday, and it seems unlikely that he’ll be ready to go Sunday night against the Eagles.

Brent said he would be a game-time decision, however, coach Jason Garrett acknowledged that it would be difficult to make a determination of Brent’s status the day of.

Brent had been out of football for nearly two years before returning to game action against the Bears on Dec. 4. He recorded two tackles in 22 snaps.

But the Cowboys have yet to make a final determination, as owner Jerry Jones said on his KRLD-FM radio show.

“We’ll get a little better sense of that after today’s practice, see how he’s moving around,” Jones said. “I’m pleased that it doesn’t have the long-term look to it that a pull can have. On the other hand, he’s got a lot of desire and knows that it’s important that he has a role in there to stop the run. Let’s see how today goes. See how he’s feeling tomorrow.

“He’s up to speed enough and did well enough in the game the other day that he doesn’t need an outstanding practice today, full blown to get dressed out. He can look pretty good, go make sure he knows what to do, and if he’s feeling pretty good, we’ll look at it at game time.”

The only other player missing from Friday’s practice during the first 30 minutes open to the media was linebacker Dekoda Watson.
