Cowboys-49ers: Five things to watch
1Tony Romo
With his back problems, his health and productivity are the top factors, and concerns, in how this season unfolds. But, for what it’s worth, Romo feels he’ll be better than ever.
2Dez Bryant
He is poised for another big season and poses a mismatch against any 49ers defensive back. Bryant, who finished last season with a touchdown catch in five consecutive games, should be targeted often by Romo.
3Running game
The stated goal from the start of training camp has been a greater emphasis on running the ball, so expect DeMarco Murray to get plenty of action. The team has invested a lot in the offensive line and brought in a new play-caller in Scott Linehan.
4Pass rush
Of the many questions about this defense, getting pressure on the quarterback is at the top. The Cowboys have six defensive ends with a combined total of 62.5 sacks, including Anthony Spencer’s 32.5. Spencer is out, though, so who gets to the quarterback?
5Winning at home
The Cowboys have historically fared well in season openers at home, going 16-7-1. It’s particularly important to establish home-field advantage this year, too, considering that five of the eight home games are against teams that won at least 10 games last year.
