The Dallas Cowboys started with their first round of cuts Monday.

They waived punter Tom Hornsey, long snapper Casey Kreiter, defensive back Robert Steeples, wide receiver Phil Bates and defensive tackle Carlif Taylor. None were expected to make the team.

The Cowboys now have 84 players, and must get to 75 by 3 p.m. Tuesday. They must have their final 53 roster set by 3 p.m. Saturday.

“It’s our responsibility to make the best decision we can to make sure that when we evaluate the guys, we gave them plenty of opportunities to show who they are,” coach Jason Garrett said.
