Cowboys wide receiver looks to continue momentum from last season

After a couple of breakout games last season, Ryan Flournoy worked his way up to the wide receiver-three spot and has solidifed himself into the role during the offseason.

“He is doing incredible, you guys saw it last year, two 100-yard games. He’ll be the first one on the practice field, the last one to leave. He’s rewarded us with very big time performances,” Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said.

Flournoy was able to step up in 2025 when CeeDee Lamb was out against the Jets where he had his first breakout game, catching six receptions for 114 yards in helping the Cowboys to a win. He also stepped up in a loss to the Lions where he had nine receptions for 115 yards.

Schottenheimer has had nothing but praise for Flournoy during Cowboys minicamp in Frisco.

“There really is not much that I don’t like about Flo. The confidence is different than it was. You really saw him take that step, I’d say about middle of the season last year, and he came back with just a really strong intent for what he wanted to get done. He looks great, he’s moving great. His routes, I think, have gotten better,” he said.

Flournoy was drafted in the sixth round by the Cowboys in the 2024 NFL draft out of Southeast Missouri State and didn’t see much action during his rookie year. He’s been able to adapt and continue to improve during his time in the league.

“Here’s a guy from a small school that’s really come in and really adapted to the way we teach route breaks and releases and speed terms and power cuts and things like that. I really think the sky is the limit for him. He’s definitely a guy that we see finding ways to get him the ball,” Schottenheimer said.

Flournoy doesn’t want his momentum to stop and has been able to step into a leadership position and is helping the Cowboys to their goal of a Super Bowl.

“Just want to stay consistent and just build off what I did last year. Just stepping into a new role, I think last season at this point, I was wide receiver-five, wide receiver-six and now wide receiver-three. So, I’ve got a voice now and just been working trying to get this team better, and we all got the goal to win the Super Bowl,” Flournoy said.

The Cowboys wrapped up their minicamp on Thursday after deciding to cancel the last day and now will have a five-week break before they begin their training camp in Oxnard, California in late July.
