Cowboys lineman discusses possible position change and viral ‘Tylers’ video
For the better part of the past decade, the schedule release in the NFL has doubled as the Super Bowl for social media teams around the NFL to creatively put out the schedule with a production that could include some shots at the opposing teams, some interwoven comedy or just straight tranquility if you’re the New York Jets.
The Dallas Cowboys elected to put their three offensive line “Tylers” in the team’s War Room to depict them as members of the Tyler Intelligence Agency (T.I.A.) to creatively poke at the opposing teams in 2026. According to a ranking from the Los Angeles Times, the Cowboys’ release video ranked No. 1 across the league.
Speaking just minutes after the release on Thursday night, Tyler Smith spoke about the production and the opportunity to be a part of the big social media day around the league.
“That was my first time being a part of a major video production,” Smith said. “It was a three-hour shoot. The guys made it really fun, I was glad we were able to do it.”
The schedule itself caught a lot of attention for the early season travel that will be required for the Cowboys, as they will have to travel to and from Brazil in Week 3 before turning around for a road game in Houston in Week 4, a Thursday night home game in Week 5 and back-to-back road trips to Green Bay and Philadelphia in Week 6 and Week 7.
While Smith has finally made his way into the first class portion of the team’s charter plane after four seasons, he did point out the need for the players to take care of their bodies for that early season stretch.
“The biggest thing is taking care of our bodies, especially when you’re traveling long distances, long flights,” he said. “Schotty has a great plan for us vets. I get a bigger seat. I’m graduated, I’m extremely happy with those developments. Just definitely make sure you’re taking care of your body during the week, pushing fluids, all that stuff.”
One of his Tyler counterparts, 2025 first-round pick Tyler Booker, was not only part of the schedule release video as well, but also an integral part of the Dallas offensive line at right guard as a rookie. Speaking on his trenches counterpart, Smith pointed to the progression ahead for Booker.
“I think the sky is the limit,” Smith said. “He approaches every day the right way. He’s a guy that’s constantly trying to get better. He’s constantly asking questions. We’re on the phone all the time, and he’s asking, ‘When are we going to do these drills? When can we get together to start doing this work?’ He started at a great launch point in his career, for sure.”
His other Tyler counterpart, left tackle Tyler Guyton, is heading into a pivotal third season where his job could potentially be threatened. In the final four games of the season last year, the Cowboys elected to move Smith to the left tackle spot while Guyton nursed nagging injuries with Dallas out of playoff contention.
While Smith has said he prefers to stay at left guard — a position he has been a three-time Pro Bowler at — he has been a good team player for moving around when needed. In his exit meeting with head coach Brian Schottenheimer at the end of the season, the two discussed the potential future movement, and Smith got a good understanding of the team’s view.
“We had great conversations about it,” Smith said. “I have an understanding of what it is. That’s all I can ask for, just that understanding early on. Obviously, I have the utmost faith that we will go out there and do what we got to do. Ultimately, I’ll be in the position that I need to be in. I’m good with where we’re at.”
