Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb responds to video of Michael Irvin praising him

The No. 88 has a rich history for the Dallas Cowboys with multiple Hall of Famers, such as Michael Irvin and Drew Pearson, and All Pros like Dez Bryant and CeeDee Lamb who have donned the number.

Lamb is the latest to wear the jersey and Irvin was on his podcast, “The White House Pod,” and talked about the discussion he had with Lamb before he decided to wear No. 88.

“Michael, I’ve always wanted to wear No. 2, I said, ‘You gotta do what’s going to make you do what you gotta do every morning. If you wear No. 88, there’s a whole lot comes with that. Soon as you get it, you’re going to raise the hope up of a whole Cowboys nation, and it’s a lot of pressure. If it’s too much for you, we understand,” said Irvin. “If you are not him, we will keep searching for the next … the next day he said, ‘I’m going to wear it, I’m gonna do it,’ now go deliver, and he has delivered.”

Lamb responded on X, formerly Twitter, thanking Irvin for his comments but downplaying his accomplishments in the league to date.

“Just being honest. I haven’t done anything yet. Grateful always, Appreciate u Mike for sharing, I need more. No greed just hunger,” said Lamb.

While the Cowboys haven’t won a Super Bowl during Lamb’s tenure, he’s accomplished quite a bit already in his NFL career with five straight Pro Bowl seasons, three All-Pro selections and was third place in Offensive Player of the Year voting in 2023.

While on paper Lamb had a strong 2025 season — 75 receptions for 1,077 yards with three touchdowns — by his standards, it was a down year. Though it’s important to note the Oklahoma product played in 14 games last year, the fewest of his career, and the Cowboys struggled, finishing the season 7-9-1 and missing the playoffs.

Lamb and the Cowboys will be looking to rebound and get back to the playoffs after missing the postseason for the past two years, with their last playoff game being a 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
