Cowboys sign two-time Super Bowl-winning wide receiver, two others after draft

On Monday afternoon, the Dallas Cowboys added three depth pieces to their roster as the dust settles from the 2026 NFL Draft this past weekend. Wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, wide receiver Tyler Johnson and linebacker Curtis Robinson were all signed on Monday to one-year contracts, the team confirmed.

Valdes-Scantling is the most notable of the bunch, as he arrives in Dallas as the NFL’s active career leader in yards per receptions (16.8) across his eight seasons in the league. While he’s never eclipsed the 700-yard mark in his eight seasons and recorded just 120 yards last season, he has won two Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs. At age 31, he provides veteran depth to a relatively young room.

Johnson is entering his seventh season in the NFL after a one-year stint with the New York Jets in 2025. In his career, Johnson has hauled in 88 receptions for 1,025 yards and five touchdowns. His special teams career has seen him play 181 snaps across his career but just 10 snaps over the last four seasons.

Robinson arrives in Dallas after a five-year stint with the San Francisco 49ers where he was mostly featured as a practice squad, special teams-depth roster spot before seeing an increased defensive role in 2025. Last season, he played in a career-high 14 games and started three contests while combining for 42 tackles and one pass deflection.

Cowboys have two roster spots remaining

After the Cowboys drafted seven players and agreed to terms with 11 undrafted free agents, Monday’s move puts the roster total at 88 players. Dallas has two spots remaining to fill the 90 allotted offseason spots ahead of the start of OTAs in June.

Off-ball linebacker is still viewed as one of the more thin positions from a depth perspective left on the roster, as six players are rostered coming out of the weekend: Robinson, Dee Winters, DeMarvion Overshown, Shemar James, undrafted free agent Langston Patterson and Justin Barron. It’s worth noting that third-round pick Jaishawn Barham and Marist Liufau are also expected to take on some off-ball linebacker responsibilities, although their role will see more of a hybrid usage as a pass rusher off the edge as an outside linebacker as well.

Valdes-Scantling and Johnson will join a receiver room that includes CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Ryan Flournoy, KaVontae Turpin and Jonathan Mingo. It’s expected that they will compete alongside seventh-round pick Anthony Smith, 2026 undrafted free agent Camden Brown, veteran Parris Campbell and 2025 undrafted free agent Traeshon Holden for a roster spot.

After training camp, the roster will be whittled down from 90 players to 53 players prior to the start of the season.
