Dak Prescott on bringing George Pickens back to Cowboys: ‘It must be done’

While making the Pro Bowl is maybe not the honor in the NFL that it once was, it still is an accomplishment in a league that features so much more parity and elite play, especially for a guy like Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Coming off major hamstring injury in 2024, playing all 17 games and qualifying for the Pro Bowl is enough to make Prescott feel grateful for 2025, even if the team success was not where he wanted it to be.

“It’s cool,” Prescott said. “Being here in year 10, having come here my rookie year, it’s awesome. Being a decade in this, talking to Jared Goff, a guy being drafted with him, it’s awesome to come back and see guys like him ... It’s awesome, just that camaraderie, getting to talk to them, getting to talk about the game, their organizations, what goes on on a daily operation basis, and it’s just fun.”

It will be a busy week for Prescott. After participating in the Pro Bowl on Tuesday night, he will stick around San Francisco to see if he wins Comeback Player of the Year during the NFL Honors on Thursday night. He is up for the award for the second time in his career (2021), but just being in the category alone is a win for him.

“The nomination is enough,” he said. “All of us are deserving, each and every one of us that are finalists. Whether we win it or not, us being deserving, I’m thankful. The reward is us all coming back and getting to play this game, so I’m super thankful for that and congratulations to each and every one of those guys.”

While Prescott can just focus on having a healthy offseason, there will be a lot happening around him in Dallas as the team works to improve the 7-9-1 record they sported in 2025.

Arguably the biggest task on the agenda is figuring out what to do with wide receiver George Pickens. Due for free agency in March after a season that saw him haul in 93 receptions for 1,402 yards and nine touchdowns, Pickens is a huge factor for the team’s future in Prescott’s eyes.

“I think it’s vital,” Prescott said about bringing Pickens back. “I think it must be done. I think obviously from [owner Jerry Jones] to everybody down understands that. The impact on this offense and the team and the great player that he is, we’ve got to find a way to keep him here.”
