Dallas Cowboys legend to join SEC team’s coaching staff

Jason Witten, the Dallas Cowboys’ career receiving leader, is joining the Oklahoma coaching staff as tight ends coach, according to multiple reports.

Witten has spent the past five years as the head coach of Argyle Liberty Christian, winning two TAPPS state championships.

Witten played 16 of his 17 NFL seasons with the Cowboys before finishing his career with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020. A Pro Football Hall of Fame finalist this year, Witten is the franchise’s career leader in receptions (1,215), receiving yards (12,977) and game played (255).

Witten, 43, joins former teammate DeMarco Murray, who is the Sooners’ running backs coach. They played together in Dallas from 2011-2014.

The Sooners are coming off a 10-3 season that ended with a loss to Alabama in the first round of the College Football Playoff in their fourth season under head coach Brent Venables.
