Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs activated off injured reserve, will play Sunday
The Dallas Cowboys activated cornerback Trevon Diggs off the injured reserve list on Saturday, and he is expected to play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Diggs has not played since Oct. 12 against the Carolina Panthers, as he was placed on IR after suffering a concussion in an at-home accident on Oct. 16. During his recovery from the concussion, Diggs also developed knee soreness that became a big reason why he needed time to rehab.
The 2021 All-Pro missed eight games, but he is now in line to finish the team’s final three games as a main piece on defense. In a corresponding move, the Cowboys placed fellow All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland on injured reserve with a foot injury, ending his season.
There was a question about if Diggs would ever be activated, as he expressed frustration last week after being a part of the gameplan to play the Minnesota Vikings before being told he would not play the day before the contest. Owner Jerry Jones said he was not healthy enough and head coach Brian Schottenheimer said he needed to do “everything the right way” before being activated.
On Friday, Schottenheimer offered more praise to Diggs for how he approached the week of practice, paving the way for him to be activated on Saturday.
“Diggs is having a very good week,” Schottenheimer said. “When you look at Trevon this week, what I’ve loved about him is he’s having fun playing football. He’s smiling and running around. To his credit, he’s having a really good week.”
In six games this season, Diggs has accounted for 18 tackles but has yet to record a pass deflection or interception.
In addition, the Cowboys elevated cornerback Corey Ballentine off the practice squad as extra depth for Sunday’s game.
