How the Dallas Cowboys’ offense has graded out in the first half of the season
The Dallas Cowboys are through their bye week and through the halfway point of the NFL regular season, as they hold a 3-5-1 record and have a lot of questions to answer if they want to spark a run to the postseason.
With nine games under their belt, it’s a lot easier to look at their roster and understand who can provide a big impact, who has underwhelmed and who has a long way to go to reach expectations.
With it being the halfway point, let’s look at how each individual offensive player for the Cowboys has graded out on Pro Football Focus to see how they stack up with the rest of the league.
Dak Prescott leading the way
Of the entire roster, the highest PFF grade belongs with starting quarterback Dak Prescott (87.8 grade). Of all qualifying quarterbacks, his grade is the third-highest of 37 quarterbacks in the league. He trails Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold (93.1) and Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford(92.5).
At the running back position, Javonte Williams is graded as the 15th-best in the league through nine weeks with a 74.5 grade. His 68.8 grade in pass protection is sixth among NFL running backs.
While it’s been tough for the Cowboys to find a consistent backup to Williams since Miles Sanders went down with a season-ending knee injury, the grades reflect the inconsistency. Rookie Jaydon Blue has a 50.0 season-long grade while Malik Davis has a 47.7 grade.
Pickens, Lamb have an extra sidekick
The wide receiver position has been one of the more consistent rooms on the team through nine weeks, and the PFF grades reflect it. George Pickens leads the way with an 81.9 grade that gives him the 10th spot among 127 qualifying NFL receivers. Right behind him is CeeDee Lamb with a 75.0 grade that ranks him 27th in the NFL.
But don’t stop the conversation about receivers at the top of the league right there, as Ryan Flournoy also finds himself in the top quarter of NFL receiver talent with a 74.0 grade that ranks 31st in the league.
The second-year player out of Southeast Missouri State is also the highest-graded run blocker among receivers on the team with a 64.0 grade.
Rookie leads the way on offensive line
The Cowboys’ offensive line has suffered from a lot of injuries through the first half of the season. But now as the unit is fully healthy going into the back half of the year, it will lean on its highest-graded players to perform.
The highest among them? Rookie first-round pick Tyler Booker, who will carry a 71.5 grade into week 10 that ranks 14th out of 80 guards across the NFL. His 79.0 run blocking grade is the highest among offensive linemen on the team and ranks seventh in the NFL.
His overall grade is second among all rookie offensive linemen and first among all rookie guards. Jets right tackle Armand Membou leads the rookies with a 73.2 grade.
