Dallas Cowboys’ game against Philadelphia Eagles resumes after long delay
The Dallas Cowboys’ season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday was suspended for about an hour because of lightning in the area.
The suspension came at 9:27 p.m. with 4:44 remaining in the third quarter and the Cowboys trailing 24-20.
The game finally resumed at 10:30 p.m.
On the broadcast, announcer Mike Tirico suggested the delay would be about an hour.
“Let’s update you on what we’re hearing from the NFL,” he said. “We can peek at the radar as well. 11:15 p.m. EST is when they think the area might be clear of the lightning, and that will be another 12 minutes of warmup time after that, so that would be 57 minutes from now or thereabouts to get the game back started one more time.
“So that gives you an idea of where we are and you see the radar, which doesn’t necessarily show any clouds around or any lightning, but you can see some in the distance there and that’s why we put this thing on pause.”
The Eagles had just forced a fumble by Cowboys running back Miles Sanders and were about to take over at the Philadelphia 16-yard line.
