All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith didn’t play in the Cowboys’ preseason opener Thursday, sitting out with a biceps injury.

Smith had been limited in practice early on in the week, and downplayed the significance of it.

“Just resting,” said Smith, a two-time Pro Bowler. “I’m good.”

Coach Jason Garrett said he expects Smith to return to practice Saturday.

In other injury news:

▪ Running back Gus Johnson separated his shoulder during the game. The Stephen F. Austin product started the game, and finished as the team’s leading rusher with 35 yards on 13 carries with one touchdown.

Johnson felt he would be able to practice Saturday, but that might have been more adrenaline talk after the game than reality. He could find himself sidelined for a few weeks, which would put his roster spot in jeopardy with Joseph Randle (oblique), Darren McFadden (hamstring) and Lance Dunbar (ankle) expected to be full-go for practice Saturday.

“I’ll be fine,” said Johnson, who at least has a keepsake from his pro debut (the ball from his TD).

“It was a great experience, one that I’ll never forget. Something I’ll never forget.”

▪ Reserve tight end James Hanna has a sprained left knee.

▪ Reserve safety Ray Vinopal has a left ankle injury.

▪ Backup quarterback Brandon Weeden had his left hand wrapped in tape after taking a blow from a helmet on his fumble. Said the right-handed Weeden: “I’m OK. Thank God it’s my left hand, too. That’s all that matters.”
