Dallas Cowboys open minicamp with Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs in attendance
The Dallas Cowboys began their mandatory team minicamp on Tuesday morning, and defensive end Micah Parsons and cornerback Trevon Diggs were both in attendance after missing parts or all of the team’s voluntary organized team activity (OTA) period.
Both made it through on Monday morning to participate in the team physical as questions lingered if either or both would skip out on attending the mandatory minicamp.
Unlike Parsons, Diggs’ potential absence would’ve been a surprise even though he has only been back in the facility during the offseason for his routine checkups with the medical staff. Aside from that, he has been rehabbing his surgically repaired knee with his own specialists and doctors in Miami since the conclusion of the season.
As he remains in the middle of contract extension negotiations with the team, Parsons is in attendance but could opt to not participate in on-field drills to not risk injury. But unlike Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end T.J. Watt not attending the Steelers’ minicamp as he also awaits a contract extension, Parsons is present nevertheless.
“It’s great to see them both,” head coach Brian Schottenheimer said. “[Parsons] will be out on the field doing some stuff. Trevon got here early and got his rehab stuff in.”
Parsons is expected to land a contract north of $40 million per season, but he remains without a deal with less than two months to go until the team reports to training camp in Oxnard, Calif. where Parsons could opt to hold out.
“I’m preparing as if I will be on the field for the first week of camp,” Parsons said in a social media post on June 3. “But it’s in the owner’s hands.”
“My conversations with Micah have been great,” Schottenheimer said. “He’s doing the things he’s supposed to do. He’s training, he’s prepping, he’s been in and out. Nobody has been more excited than Micah about what we’ve been building here.”
Diggs is expected to rehab into the training camp in hopes of being cleared in time for the season opener or early into the 2025 season.
“Doing good, same thing,” Schottenheimer said about Diggs’ physical results. “Came in for a re-check, we’ll figure it out when we get out to training camp. There’s still a big window of time between now and when we get out there.”
