Ex-Steeler points out ‘red flag’ with new Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens
The Dallas Cowboys added a dynamic playmaker when they traded for wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday.
Pickens’ big-play ability would be a great fit for a Cowboys offense looking to get more weapons for All-Pro QB Dak Prescott.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers and Super Bowl champion Ryan Clark threw cold water on the trade, saying fans should be worried about how Pickens comported himself with his former team.
“The Pittsburgh Steelers, who under Mike Tomlin’s tenure, has the greatest tolerance for mercurial personalities, Antonio Brown was there for a number of years where he was one of the best players in all of the NFL and the behavior was what we eventually saw,” said Clark, “So if this has gotten to a point so early in George Picken’s career where they can no longer tolerate him, where they can no longer make a relationship between this wide receiver and the organization work then that’s a problem to me. That’s a red flag to me, and now if you’re the Dallas Cowboys, yes, it seems like a home run from a physical standpoint, what he adds to this offense.”
Pickens has had problems with discipline during his time in the NFL, including when he was fined last season for ripping then-Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis by his facemask after a loss.
However, last season, Pickens had 59 catches for 900 yards with three touchdowns and will provide the Cowboys with one of the NFL’s best receiver duos.
