Nobody wants Shedeur Sanders. Could Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys really draft him?
Two days into the 2025 NFL Draft, easily the biggest shocker around the league is Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, son of Hall of Fame two-way star Deion Sanders, still being on the board.
Widely considered a first or second-round talent by league analysts, Sanders has seen 102 picks go by without getting a phone call from one of the 32 teams.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has a close relationship with the Sanders family, and he spoke to his confidence in Shedeur Sanders as he heads into Saturday awaiting his NFL future.
“We thought and evaluated him extremely high in this draft,” Jones said. “We obviously have Dak as the highest-paid player in the league. I have an edge, I know what winner he has in his bloodline. Consequently, with my firsthand knowledge with my relationship with Deion over the years, and I watched two or three ballgames with his son, I know where the character is there. And it is great character. It as an unbelievable character for winning in sports.”
Jones indicated that it isn’t in the team’s plans to draft a quarterback and instead said he would welcome any call from teams around the league looking to get more information on Sanders heading into day three to help him get picked elsewhere.
“If calls come my way, they will get firsthand knowledge of my life with him over the last 20 years,” he said. “I’m a big person about the character of the Sanders family.”
Five quarterbacks have been selected in the 2025 NFL Draft ahead of Sanders. The Tennessee Titans selected Miami’s Cam Ward with the first overall selection, Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart was picked No. 25 overall by the New York Giants, Louisville’s Tyler Shough was drafted to the New Orleans Saints with the No. 40 pick, the Seattle Seahawks picked Alabama’s Jalen Milroe with the No. 92 pick and the Cleveland Browns selected Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel with the No. 94 selection.
The Cowboys do not have Sanders or other quarterbacks in their plans going into day three, but could swing on one in the undrafted market.
