Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones selected as ‘Bum Steer of the Year’ by Texas Monthly
Texas Monthly gave Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones the magazine’s highest dishonor, selecting him as the ‘Bum Steer of the Year.’
The Bum Steer of the Year award has been given out by Texas Monthly since 1975 and catalogs the worst of Texas. In the past, it has been awarded to politicians like Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Gov. Gregg Abbott and the Texas Democratic Party among others.
Outlining why Jones was given the award the magazine focused on Jones’ unwillingness to be active in free agency, his second-guessing of coaches and his lack of playoff success having not been past the divisional round of the playoffs since 1996.
Texas Monthly also pointed out recent failing such as Jones’ pushback on critique about how sunlight affects play and the team’s upset playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers in the 2023 NFL Wild Card round.
This was not Jones first time being selected as ‘Bum Steer of the Year,’ as he previously shared the honor in 2010 with the Texas Longhorns football.
