Why did Jimmy Johnson say he thought Dan Quinn would become Cowboys head coach?
In the aftermath of the Dallas Cowboys’ 48-32 loss to the Green Bay Packers in the 2023 NFL playoffs, ex-Cowboys coordinator Dan Quinn told FOX NFL Sunday’s Jay Glazer he was unsure if he’d ever be offered a head coaching job again.
“Going into that game he was one of the top names on every single list for all the openings, after that game, he only had two in-person interviews,” said Glazer. “[Quinn] said...’I’m not gonna lie to you I was in really really dark place, had a really hard time with this...I thought I’d never have another shot again.”
Jimmy Johnson said without the loss he thought Quinn would’ve been head coach of the Cowboys
“I really believe had Dallas played better defense against Green Bay in that last playoff game, Dan Quinn would be head coach of the Dallas Cowboys right now, but that’s to Washington’s benefit,” said Johnson.
In his first season with Washington, Quinn has led the team to a 7-2 record, good for second place in the NFC East, after finishing last season with a 4-13 record.
According to Draft Kings, Quinn is one of the leading candidates for NFL Coach of the Year with the sixth-best odds to win the award.
