Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott headed to injured reserve, season-ending surgery likely
Update Nov. 9 (3:15 p.m.): Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is likely to have season-ending surgery on his partially torn hamstring after receiving a final opinion from a specialist on Monday, according to a report by ESPN. Surgery has remained a possibility for Prescott, as the opinions from multiple specialists this week have communicated that surgery is the most likely option. The final medical opinion on Monday will give Prescott his final decision.

The Dallas Cowboys will be placing starting quarterback Dak Prescott on the injured reserve list after he suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed the news on Friday afternoon on his weekly appearance on The Fan, 105.3-FM.
“Right now, I don’t think anyone knows whether it will be four weeks, six weeks or the season,” Jones said. “We’ll just have to continue to monitor that and see where it takes us.”
Prescott’s hamstring has partially torn off the bone. He and the team sought outside opinions on the injury, and the evaluation has concluded that the nature of the tear would trend closer toward Prescott experiencing a recovery of six-plus weeks, according to a source. His stint on the injured reserve would force him to miss at least four games, but the expectation is that he will miss more.
The earliest Prescott could return is on Dec. 9 against the Cincinnati Bengals. With the Cowboys sitting at 3-5 and three teams with a winning record upcoming on their schedule, Dallas could be out of playoff contention by the time Prescott has healed.
Surgery still remains an option. That would end Prescott’s season.
It had been a rocky first half of the year for Prescott. He had passed for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions before he suffered the injury.
Backup quarterback Cooper Rush will take over the reins in the meantime, beginning with Sunday’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. He is 4-1 as a starter throughout his career when needing to fill in for Prescott.
