Former Dallas Cowboys player and coach explains misconception about owner Jerry Jones
Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett explained on NBC’s ‘Football Night in America” that Jerry Jones is involved in day-to-day football operations less than many fans believe.
“In general, there’s a miss-perception about Jerry Jones. There’s this idea that he sits in meetings all the time. That’s really not the case. But when things aren’t going well, he’s going to inject himself and get more involved,” said Garrett.
Garrett did acknowledge that Jones’ public comments and opinions can bring extra attention and scrutiny to whoever the Cowboys’ head coach is.
“It’s one thing to have conversations about things he wants to do in-house, but it’s a little more challenging when he’s doing radio shows and those things come out in public. Often times they might be in contrast to what the head coach is saying or what the quarterback is saying...There’s a lot of attention on the Cowboys, and when you’re the head coach, you have to quiet things down and eliminate some of that noise,” said Garrett.
Garrett’s comments could be a reference to Jones’ recent appearance on 105.3 The Fan criticizing head coach Mike McCarthy’s playcalling, which drew criticism from national media and former players who thought the Cowboys owner was abdicating responsibility.
