Why did Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey miss practice on Wednesday?
Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, who was listed on the Wednesday practice report as a non-participant because of jury duty, has been selected to be on a 12-person jury for a felony assault case in Tarrant County, a source says.
The case is centered around a second-degree strangulation charge against the defendant. While the Cowboys tried to pull him away from the jury duty, Aubrey insisted on fulfilling his duty on Wednesday. It is expected that he will return to court on Thursday and Friday, and also that the judge will work with Aubrey with his football schedule.
Aubrey was not seen during the media portion of practice for the Cowboys on Wednesday and was later confirmed to be out for his civic duty. While juror information is typically not made public, multiple eyewitnesses have seen Aubrey serving on the jury in the downtown Fort Worth courthouse as of Wednesday afternoon. There is not a clear timetable on how long the case could last. The case does not sequester jurors, meaning that Aubrey will be released for nights and weekends while the case is ongoing. His availability for Sunday’s game in San Francisco is not currently in question.
After being signed out of the USFL prior to the 2023 season, Aubrey has emerged as one of the top kickers in the NFL. He has successfully converted on 53 of his first 57 field goal attempts in the NFL, including a 50-plus yard field goal in each of the last eight games which stands alone as an NFL record. After a first-team AP All-Pro nod in 2023, Aubrey is well on his way to more honors in his second season after converting on multiple field goals in each of the team’s six games.
