CeeDee Lamb breaks silence on sideline outburst, takes accountability for actions
After the Cowboys’ 28-25 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was absent from postgame media availabilities after a game that saw him fumble in the red zone, show visible emotions to teammates on the sideline and seemingly take himself out of the offensive gameplan.
On Tuesday, Lamb met with the media and answered questions related to his outburst on Sunday.
He took full responsibility for actions that he deemed as “very detrimental” to the team’s performance against the Ravens.
“Quite honestly, I failed myself and obviously I failed the team,” Lamb said. “I let the game get to my head a little bit…Obviously, I have to be truthful to myself and I played a part in that loss, a big part honestly. My body language, my attitude, approaching the situation.”
While Lamb did say that he was aware of his actions as the game went on, he pointed to mental conditioning that is incorporated into the Cowboys’ practice week that he did not take to the field when adversity hit.
“Truly understanding and using that in my practice habits and those were one of the moments where it could have come to fruition,” he said. “Obviously, it went the opposite direction. It wasn’t good for myself or the team, very detrimental. I’ll make up for it.”
Lamb’s performance included him hauling in just one reception for nine yards in a second half that saw the offense around him put together a ditch-effort surge that came up just three points short. Putting into context the final conclusion, his second quarter fumble that prevented the Cowboys from setting up in a goal-to-go situation loomed large.
“You can’t blame nobody,” Lamb said. “You have to start with the man in the mirror, and I’m a huge believer in that. Watching that game kind of pissed me off, but I did that. I can’t get mad at nobody else. With that being said, I’ve learned.”
The broadcast cameras also caught Lamb exchanging passionate words with quarterback Dak Prescott before Prescott turned and walked away. It wasn’t the only time Lamb voiced frustration throughout the day, but he was quick to affirm that the relationship he has with his quarterback remains strong.
“We understand the urgency, and that’s between us,” he said. “We talk about it every day and every night. Our relationship, if anything, has gotten stronger. Don’t let what’s out there fool you. We’re brothers to the end. We know that we’re all we got. I tip my hat off to him, I have the utmost respect for him. I look at him as a brother.”
