Dallas Cowboys sign wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to massive new contract. How much did he get?
The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a multi-year extension with receiver CeeDee Lamb according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Lamb signed a four-year $136 million contract which is the second richest contract in NFL history given to a non-quarterback, trailing only Minnesota Viking Justin Jefferson.
In a press conference on Monday, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy talked about getting Lamb back into the fold.
“Number one it was just great to get the contract in place and obviously have him back. The schedule that we have for the week, really, frankly kind of fits into a ramp-up mode. So, I don’t feel like we have to do a whole lot of adjustment, obviously, we’re gonna have a plan for him,” said McCarthy.
McCarthy said everyone in the Cowboys office was fired up about the Lamb contract and that he wasn’t concerned about Lamb’s absence being a setback for the season.
“I think just like anything, these athletes train at an unbelievable rate and discipline, CD in particular, I mean, he loves to run this guy, you have to cut him down at practice because he’ll just keep going,” said McCarthy, “I’m actually more focused on not doing too much with him, but, you know, the other part is the overall conditioning, I don’t think it’s gonna be a concern but it’s really just more of the connection and the little things the details... all those types of things and you really only get that playing football.”
Selected by the Cowboys with the No. 17 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Lamb has exceeded expectations amassing three Pro Bowl selections, two NFL All-Pro selections and was the league leader in receptions in the 2023 season.
Lamb earned first-team NFL All-Pro honors during his 2023 season after setting career highs in catches (135), yards (1,749) and touchdowns (12).
McCarthy praised Lamb for the versatility shown since entering the league, comparing the Oklahoma product to Randall Cobb.
“We’ve always preached the opportunity to have receivers that can play all three spots, the X, the D and the F but you know, CD and Randall are really the only two that I’ve ever been able to put in the backfield. So yes, I think that gives you a complete weapon because when you can line them up in any spot, clear across the board and perimeter, it definitely gives you flexibility for targeting from the defense,” said McCarthy.
Lamb held out for the entire preseason but is now expected to play in the Cowboys season opener against the Cleveland Browns.
