Fire breaks out in hotel room where Dallas Cowboys are staying in Oxnard, Calif.

A fire broke out Tuesday in a hotel room where Dallas Cowboys players are staying in Oxnard, California, home of their training camp.

The Residence Inn hotel room was empty and no one was injured.

A Cowboys spokesman said they didn’t know the cause of the fire.

Firefighters arrived to the scene to extinguish the fire.

The fire emergency was contained to one room, which was empty at the time, according to a statement from the Cowboys.

“The Dallas Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department for their quick response and reaction to the situation,” the statement read.

The Cowboys break camp on Thursday and return to Dallas after roughly five weeks in Oxnard.

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy reacted to the fire at his press conference on Wednesday.

“I think most importantly, I just want to thank public safety of Oxnard for an outstanding job,” McCarthy said. “They were here in response to a very unfortunate situation, but definitely something we can learn from but I thought the response was was outstanding.”

McCarthy said he is never seen anything like this before in training camp.

He reiterated that the team was thankful no one was injured. A couple players had to be relocated to new rooms and lost some belongings in the fire.

“Fire is scary,” McCarthy said. “The damage that it can do and it has done. So some individuals have been affected by it, a lot of property damage, and all that goes into account. I think we’re thankful that the response was outstanding, and particularly our people here that were first on site, just the way we responded with the fire extinguisher and things like that. We have people that jumped right in there and we’re on top of it.”

The Cowboys arrived on July 23 and will return to Dallas-Fort Worth Aug. 22. They play their last preseason game and the only one at home at AT&T Stadium Saturday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
